There are many misconceptions that abound regarding hypnosis…it is not controlling one’s mind; it’s not a deep sleep and it cannot be used to make you to do anything you do not want to do.
Hypnosis involves the inducing a trance-like state very similar to what everyone experiences when falling to sleep. It allows you to experience an enhanced state of awareness enabling you to concentrate entirely on the voice of the hypnotherapist. In this trance like state your conscious mind is inhibited and your subconscious mind revealed. This allows the therapist to effectively help you deal with any irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts, unwanted behaviours and suppressed emotions you wish to overcome.
For example, David wanted to help change his eating habits and reduce his weight. Having been unsuccessful using traditional dieting and exercise methods, he tried hypnosis to help address the root cause of his poor eating habits, which was rooted deep within his subconscious mind. After a number of sessions of hypnotherapy, progress was made to help introduce new ways of thinking about food and approaching eating habits by reprogramming the subconscious mind so that David was able to lose weight, keep it off, and improve his health for now and the future.
When I went along for my first hypnotherapy session I was a little sceptical to be honest.
